Duke of Edinburgh Award
Course Leader: Chris Ashdown
Why choose DofE?
Together, we have no limits.
Choose the things which you love to do or try something completely new, test your limits, enhance your skills and grow your confidence. It’s your award, so do it your way.
DofE is a life-changing experience. A fun time with friends, and an opportunity to discover new interests and talents. You can get to develop essential skills for life and work. If you pass the award, you’ll get a mark of achievement which is recognized by employers and UCAS (if Gold is completed).
It isn’t about competition or about being first. It’s about you, setting personal challenges and pushing your personal boundaries.
If you complete your Gold award, you will have this presented to you by a member of the Royal Family at one of the palaces.
Are there any costs associated with this?
Yes, currently this is £30 and most of the award is covered by the school. You will need to fund your kit and residential section, however please talk to us if you need help as there are various funds that we can apply for.
What you will study?
On the Gold programme, there are five sections which you will need to complete, whilst Silver there is 4:
- Volunteering
- Physical
- Skills
- Expedition: 4 days, 3 nights through your chosen mode of transport. As a group, you will decide this. Walking is the most common, but there are many different opportunities depending on what you would like to do.
- Residential (Gold only) – 5 days and 4 nights (organised externally of the school).
Like the other qualifications, it is a serious commitment which you will need to consider your time for. If you’ve already completed your Silver Award, it’ll take you at least 12 months. If you’re haven’t done your Silver, it’ll take at least 18 months.
The activities for each section must take a minimum of 1 hour a week over a set period of time. Development and regular process should be shown.
